Self motivation is the inner drive that can help turn your "mountains into mole hills." Much like
developing a nice figure through cardio and resistance exercise, your motivation muscle can also
be developed.
Below we discuss what motivation is and also have Tips on how you can begin building yours.
How Building Your Motivation Can Help You
Self motivation is that fire in your bones that won’t let you give up, even if you fall down or make mistakes. And it gives you the energy to keep going when you are tired.
Motivation isn’t all-powerful, but is the “fuel” that is vital for success in any endeavor. No matter what you choose to do, they’ll also be those days when it’s hard, and quitting or compromising looks good.
Building your “motivation muscle” not only helps through those tough days, but gives you the strength to get up and back on the path even if you did quit or compromise.
What is self motivation? It is "the desire to achieve a goal, or not achieve a goal ."
Positive Goals
Achieve a certain weight
Fit into a certain pair of jeans, maybe again
Get to a certain dress size
etc.
Fear Goals
Wrinkles
Cellulite
Getting in shape after a pregnancy
Going to a Class reunion
etc.
Both types of goals can motivate us. Still, it seems the Fear Goals can create the greatest short-
term motivation.
On the other hand, "positive" goals will generate sustained motivation. As an ancient proverb
states:
At this point, you might be thinking "yeah, yeah, I've heard this goal stuff all my life." That's
true, setting goals is easy - achieving them is what separates the "average" from the "above
average."
Be, Do, Have
You have to Be in order to Do in order to Have . In other words,
you have to Be the right person in order to Do the right actions, in order to
Have the right results (achieve your goal).
How can you Be the right person?
First, confess that you can do it. The reason a vast majority of people never achieve
anything is because they don't believe down deep that they can. To change this, you can simply take your “motivation vitamin” each morning.
Exercise -
Every morning when you wake up, confess that you CAN achieve the goal
you've set. Example - "I CAN lose 20Ib and fit into my jeans."
How can you Do the right things?
Set "reasonable" and "attainable" goals. If you're 175Ib now, please don't set a goal to be 130Ib
by next month, it's not going to happen. Instead, a “reasonable” and “achievable” goal would be to lose 1-2Ibs a week.
By setting goals that you can comfortably achieve, you are setting the stage for your success. Be good to yourself. Set goals that you feel motivated to achieve, but you don’t have to be perfect every single day to achieve them.
How can you Have the right results?
Diligence.
“It’s not what you can do 1 day, it’s what you can do consistently everyday.”
Similar to running a marathon, achieving a “reasonable” goal boils down to finding your pace. What can you do comfortably each day? Once you find your “pace”, your well on your way to achieving whatever you desire.
Tips for Building Your Self Motivation
Building self motivation is like putting $1000 into a mutual fund. At first, it doesn't seem like anything
is happening, but as time goes on a little becomes much.
Building motivation is very similar in
that as you continue to develop yours day by day, after a while people will notice a change in you,
and in time you will notice a change in yourself.
Tip- Confess "I can achieve .........." every morning when you wake up.
Tip- Set goals that are achievable. An example would be if you've just begun exercising, your
goal could be to do all 3 of your workouts this week.
"Make it easy for you to succeed and hard
for you to fail.”
Tip- Never live to achieve your goals, work to achieve your goals in order to live. Goals are
meant to create motivation, excitement, and increase the zest in your life.
If you happen to not
achieve a goal, the only thing it means is that you tried, and that is success.
The tips above are only meant as guidelines. For example, you may find setting big, grandiose goals is really what gets your juices flowing. Awesome! The point is to begin and start on the journey to becoming all you can be.
